What does it really mean to be a sales leader?

At first, I tried managing my team like I was told — tracking numbers and setting quotas — but it didn’t feel right. After spending some time observing experienced mentors, I began noticing that a true sales leader focuses on teaching, guiding, and motivating their team. By applying these lessons, I learned to give meaningful feedback, support skill development, and celebrate small wins. Now the team feels more motivated, and I’m seeing better results without micromanaging. Leadership suddenly feels like a skill I can grow, not just a title.
